Oral examination

A comprehensive oral exam typically includes the following:

  • Digital x-rays (often includes panoramic x-rays as well)

  • Pictures of all your teeth done with an intra-oral camera (optional)

  • Checking teeth for cavities, existing restorations, existing prosthetic replacements, decay, gums and dental abcesses

  • Teeth mobility, sensitivity, recession of the gum

  • Occlusion (bite), excessive teeth wear

  • Oral hygiene

  • Oral cancer screening

  • How existing teeth relate to each other and whether or not the missing teeth need replacement

  • Esthetics - the cosmetic appearance of your teeth

Composite filling

A composite filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc.  The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling.

Reasons for composite fillings:

  • Chipped teeth.

  • Closing space between two teeth.

  • Cracked or broken teeth.

  • Decayed teeth.

  • Improve the look of discolored teeth.

  • Change the shape of teeth.

Crown and bridge

Crowns: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth  to restore its shape and size, strength, and improve its appearance.

A dental crown may be needed in the following situations:

  • To protect a weak tooth (such as: decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth

  • To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down

  • To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't a lot of tooth left

  • To hold a dental bridge in place

  • To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth

  • To cover a dental implant

  • To make a cosmetic modification

Bridges: A bridge is a fixed replacement for a missing tooth or teeth.

Benefits of dental bridges:

  • Restore your smile

  • Restore the ability to properly chew and speak

  • Maintain the shape of your face

  • Distribute the forces in your bite properly by replacing missing teeth

  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position

CEREC by Sirona

CEREC By Sirona (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEramic REConstruction) is a Computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing method for reconstructing tooth restorations. This time-saving, computer-aided process allows dentists themselves to efficiently construct, produce, and insert individual ceramic restorations directly at the point of treatment (chairside) in a single appointment.

This process entails taking a digital impression or scan, designing the restoration on the computer (computer-aided design), and manufacturing the restoration (computer-aided manufacturing).

Cadent iTero™ Digital Impression System

  • Cadent iTero digital impression system is now being used at HuaKang Dental for dental restorations (such as dental crowns, invisaligns, implants etc). This system allows dentists to take an accurate 3D digital scan of your teeth and bite, make real-time adjustments, and transmit the impression over the Internet to Cadent. Cadent will then construct a model which will be sent to the dental lab. This allows the lab to create highly precise dental restoration.

  • While your digital impression is being made, you will be able to view the entire process on a computer screen.

Benefits of CEREC

  • CEREC technology makes it possible to produce and integrate ceramic restorations in a single appointment.

  • More biocompatible and boasts tooth-like physical and aesthetic qualities.

  • In addition, digital impressions are more comfortable for patients than traditional impressions.
